CONFESSIONS OF A TELEVISION ADDICT

The clock is ticking down on the 2015-2016 television season. I’ve already said goodbye to Annalise Keating (How to Get Away with Murder), Meredith Grey (Grey’s Anatomy) and Elizabeth McCord (Madam Secretary) until September. And I won’t be seeing Olivia Pope (Scandal) again until January since Kerry Washington, the actress who plays her, is having a baby. I’m not sure how she made such a big decision without consulting me first, but I guess I’ll just have to suck it up.

Don’t even get me started on the series finale of The Good Wife. I’m not sure about all of you, but I definitely wasn’t satisfied with that ending. Plus, I’m still having trouble processing the fact that Nashville has been canceled. How can they do that to me, especially since Rayna and Deacon are currently on the outs?

Yes, I know these characters aren’t real. And yes, I do have a life. But I’m not alone in getting totally wrapped up in the lives of my favorite television characters and the shows they inhabit. It’s perfectly normal.

Both my husband and my best friend, for example, are obsessed with Game of Thrones. I don’t share that particular obsession, but I guess there’s always time to get with the program. One of my five sisters-in-law still watches reruns of The Golden Girls every chance she gets. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. (Bonus points if you recognize that line, which is from one of my favorite shows of all time.)

Anyway, it’s going to be a long summer. Thank goodness for Netflix. I’m only halfway through Season 4 of House of Cards since I don’t have time to binge watch. So, by the time I work my way through that—along with Season 2 of Grace and Frankie and Bloodline—I should be able to move on to new episodes of Orange Is the New Black. Okay, maybe I do have a problem.

Hello, my name is Ellen and I’m a television addict.
