Looking For Things To Do This Weekend? We’ve Got You Covered.

This weekend marks the beginning of March if you can believe it. It’s not quite time for spring-y activities in the city, with some snow showers expected next week, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t plenty of things to do in D.C. this weekend, some that will even let you get outside.

Watch DC United Kick Off its 2019 Season

This weekend opens DC United’s 2019 season with a high-stakes game against Atlanta United FC, the current MLS Cup champions. Last year DC United’s first home game was held at the Maryland SoccerPlex, so this marks a special occasion, a full season with the brand-new Audi Field as their home. This is a great excuse to get the second-hand adrenaline pumping and support a local DC team doing what they do best.

The Cherry Blossom Pop-Up Bar

The Cherry Blossom PUB (pop-up bar for the uninitiated) is back and dreamier than ever. Opening on Thursday Feb. 28th through April 21st, the bar is a hybrid of Versailles extravagance and Japanese culture. There will be wooden trellises laced with luscious flowers, including cherry blossoms of course, and Japanese-inspired cocktails. There is even a ramen-themed room featuring Hiro Mitsui’s signature vegan miso ramen, a massive ramen noodle and chopstick sculpture, and a mural by Andrew Funk. If you want to be transported to a different time and place, be sure to stop by.

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day Early

Alexandria’s St. Patrick Day Parade is this Saturday and is the perfect way to celebrate St. Patty’s Day in a family-oriented environment, though I’m sure there will still be opportunities for beer and whiskey guzzling. Organized by The Ballyshaners, a volunteer organization devoted to promoting and preserving Irish heritage and culture, the parade presents a nice reason to spend some time outside and explore Old Town.

Go See a Movie

Each year after the Oscars, when I realize that I didn’t see half of the films nominated, I feel re-inspired to see a movie in theaters. This weekend is a perfect chance to catch up on the films from last year that are still out. But even if you don’t have post-Oscars FOMO, there’s still tons of options. Greta, for instance, a psychological thriller featuring Chloe Grace Moretz and Isabelle Huppert, comes out March 1st and looks like the ideal dose of suspense.

Play with Cute Kittens

Crumbs and Whiskers is another pop-up opening this weekend, but instead of serving cocktails, they offer one on one time with adorable kittens. In Georgetown, the kitten lounge and cafe rescues kittens from overflowing animal shelters. If you find yourself falling in love with one of their cats, Crumbs and Whiskers can help facilitate a kitty adoption! They even offer cat yoga, which is basically an hour of vinyasa followed by 30 minutes of snuggling with kittens.

Be sure to tag us during your weekend adventures! Happy March everyone!
